Kanye West and Amy Winehouse lead this year's Grammy nominees it was announced Thursday morning, with the two racking up an impressive eight and six nominations, respectively.

The Chi-town rapper and British soul singer are both up for Album of the Year -- West for his 'Graduation,' and Winehouse for 'Back to Black' -- a category rounded out by fellow multi-nominees Foo Fighters for their 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace,' country veteran Vince Gill with his four-disc collection, 'These Days' and jazz legend Herbie Hancock, with his tribute to Joni Mitchell, 'River: The Joni Letters.'
Other multiple nominees include Jay-Z, Timbaland, Paul McCartney, Rihanna and T-Pain.
Winehouse, whose music stood to be eclipsed by her personal trials, also earned nods for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her middle finger lush anthem, 'Rehab.'
"She makes Lindsay Lohan look cool," comedian and nomination announcer George Lopez said.
Joining Winehouse in the Best New Artist category are indie darling Feist, Nashville pop punks Paramore, Ledesi and soon to be 18-year-old country phenom Taylor Swift.
"This is the best day ever. I'm freaking out," Swift, who was among the morning's announcers, said. "I really didn't think it was going to happen."
Meanwhile, West, whose mother passed away suddenly last month, was the insiders' top pick, with his third album, 'Graduation,' selling almost 1 million copies its first week, topping 50 Cent's 'Curtis.' In addition to Album of the Year, 'Graduation' is also up for Best Rap Album, with fellow nominees Jay-Z ('Kingdom Come'), Common ('Finding Forever'), Nas ('Hip Hop Is Dead') and T.I. ('T.I. vs. T.I.P').
Beyonce's 'Irreplaceable,' the Foo's 'The Pretender,' Justin Timberlake's 'What Goes Around Comes Around' and Rihanna's 'Umbrella' are all up for Record of the Year. The latter is also up for Song of the Year, along with Carrie Underwood's 'Before He Cheats,' the Plain White T's 'Hey There Delilah' and Corrine Bailey Rae's 'Like a Star.'
The Grammy Awards -- which celebrate their 50th anniversary, appropriately the Golden Anniversary, this year -- air live on CBS from Los Angeles, on February 10.

I saw a commercial last night and it had a picture of rob thomas on it for performances. I was wondering if anyone knew if Matchbox 20 will be performing on the grammys. Contact this if anyone knows. Thanks!

The writers strikc will no hold back the Grammy’s. Finally we get to see something besides re-runs on TV. I think Justin Timberlake will get record of the year hands down. What do you think? Go to http://www.kiisfm.com/pages/grammys/ and vote for who you think will win at the Grammy’s and you will get a chance to win tickets to the Grammy’s and find out first hand who will walk away winners.

Amy Winehouse is one ugly chick. Scary. It's too bad that she is a super star. What a terrible role model.

Explain to me why some artist and not other artist who are more clearly talented get shunned at what is now a joke of awards show? Amy whinehouse gets 6 nominations i mean who votes on this. Is this the best you can do.I can name a lot of artist who are more talented [ Brandi carlile] But because she is not in the main stream public view and does not tour as much, or do drugs is left out of any kind of nominations!

OK, so the Grammys are celebrating 50 Years. Well, there is one group that a Lifetime Achievement awarded should've been given to this year. That group is CHICAGO. This group just celebrated 40 years and is still KICK'N ASS. Their latest CD CHICAGO XXX (30) was in the top 100 making them the only band to have an album or CD to rank for 5 Decades!! Their music is timeless and much unappreciated. They still are not in the so called "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame"!!

My son, age 16, will be attending the 2008 Grammy Awards this year. His father knew someone and was able to secure four tickets. Lucky boy! I'll be looking for him.
Having been raised to use a computer since 2 1/2 years of age, my son has a love of music, enjoys his iPod, and iTunes. He understands that music sharing is available and has taken advantage of this option. However, he feels strongly that a talented artist deserves to earn money for his or her talents and musical contribution.
It seems as though artists are still earning a startling amount despite music sharing sites like LimeWire & Kazaa. Even Britney Spears, with all of her troubles, has earned a considerable amount this year for her singles.
So my question is: What is so wrong with music sharing? Don't artists still cash in?
Sorry it doesn't match the topic, but I just had to ask.

Amy Winehouse deserves, at the very least, Best New Artist and she is talented. Her entire album, Back to Black, is great and she has a strong voice. I am quite sure she sounds better live than some of the other nominees! Give her a break, she needs help.

Kayne west, why should they hold the music for you just because your mama died!?!?!?!
So what, you are not that special and there are others who will be up on that stage to get awards. Stop the talking and just get off the stage!

The biggest-selling album of the year was Josh Groban’s “Noël,” which sold 3.7 million copies (despite being released in October) according to Nielsen SoundScan. You put Josh Groban to duet with nutcase Bocelli. Then let the fool’s Kanye and Bublé in the auditorium. God sake idiot, fix you hearing aide.
I had to put up with 3 friggin hours of rap to hear the last 20 minutes of music. Shit,
The Grammys are “The Dammys” as in Daam Man this sucks!
Hold two award shows one rap and the other real music – see where your ad money come’s from.

I thought it was a great Grammy year. Foo Fighters rocked as did Rhianna/The Time.
I wish there had been more classic rock/modern R&B collaborations like this one:
Squeeze Box
Dr BLT cover of The Who

Six nominations!!! I think it is a testimonial to the great talent of Amy Winehouse. She has an eccentric side to her, but her talent cannot be denied!
